SATUN – On July 23-24, 2026, the School of Pharmacy at Walailak University, led by Dr. Tanavij Pannoi and Asst. Prof. Dr. Tida Sottiyotin, served as guest speakers for a research development initiative on Rational Drug Use (RDU). The training was provided to pharmacists and healthcare professionals in Satun province with the aim of advancing the local healthcare system and elevating the quality of life for patients with chronic diseases.
The project featured a hands-on workshop focused on qualitative research involving patients with hypertension and diabetes who also suffer from stage 3 chronic kidney disease. These patients reside within the service areas of Tha Phae Hospital and Khuan Don Hospital. The primary objective is to develop a health promotion program and enhance health literacy regarding rational drug use to delay kidney deterioration in this specific patient demographic.
The activities encompassed comprehensive lectures on utilizing Patient Journey Maps and RDU literacy assessment tools. Participants also engaged in practical fieldwork, conducting real patient interviews and performing systematic data analysis. The insights gathered will be used to design healthcare guidelines tailored to the specific context of the local community.
The two faculty members from the School of Pharmacy will continue to serve as research consultants until the project concludes. This collaboration underscores Walailak University’s commitment to its mission of being “The Pillar of the Community” through area-based research. Ultimately, these efforts will pave the way for advancing medication literacy and building a stronger, more sustainable healthcare system for patients with chronic diseases in Satun province.
