NAKHON SI THAMMARAT — Walailak University’s School of Pharmacy in southern Thailand has hosted an internship program for students from Vietnam to help them learn about the country’s healthcare and pharmaceutical systems.
The program, the first of its kind organized by the school, was held from July 21 to 27. It involved five students from Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (CTUMP), Vietnam.
During the week-long program, the students observed the daily operations of pharmacists and other medical personnel at various facilities. The sites included the Walailak University Medical Center Hospital, the university’s pharmacy, external drugstores, and the Ton Liap Health Promotion Hospital.
Participants learned about comprehensive pharmaceutical practices, including outpatient and inpatient care, drug manufacturing, inventory management, and community pharmacy services.
The students also engaged in clinical case discussions with the university’s faculty members. The sessions covered major diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, pneumonia, and tuberculosis.
Officials say the discussions allowed the Vietnamese students to compare differences in medication usage and medical treatment guidelines between Thailand and Vietnam.
The university hopes the initiative will broaden the students’ international perspectives on public health and help strengthen future academic cooperation between the two institutions.
