Walailak University School of Pharmacy Faculty Serve as Guest Speakers for BEDO to Promote GAP Standards and Market Opportunities for Community Bioeconomy

Walailak University’s School of Pharmacy continues to actively promote the sustainable utilization of local natural resources. On September 8, 2026, faculty members from the School of Pharmacy were invited as guest speakers for the capacity-building workshop titled “Enhancing Network Community Capacity in Area Management, Conservation, and Sustainable Utilization of Biological Resources for Local Income Generation.” The event was organized by the Biodiversity-based Economy Development Office (Public Organization), or BEDO, and took place at the Infinity Meeting Room, Walailak University.

The workshop was conducted under the Fiscal Year 2026 Community BioBank Network Support Project. Its primary objective was to strengthen community capacity in managing, conserving, and sustainably utilizing biodiversity under the framework of Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs), while simultaneously adding economic value for local community enterprise networks.

On this occasion, faculty members from the School of Pharmacy shared their academic expertise and practical insights with participating community enterprise representatives in two key sessions:

  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Boonsong Wungsintaweekul delivered a lecture on “Cultivation Guidelines for Medicinal Plants under GAP Standards to Obtain High-Quality Herbal Raw Materials.” The presentation focused on cultivation site management, quality control, and compliance with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) to elevate local herbal produce to meet rigorous quality and safety standards required by modern pharmaceutical and health product industries.

  • Asst.Prof.Dr. Bhudsaban Sukkarn presented on “The Potential of Medicinal Plants: Economic Opportunities and Market Demand.

    ” The session provided comprehensive market outlooks, commercial distribution channels, and strategies for aligning local herbal products with current consumer trends and supply chain requirements, paving the way for sustainable community revenue generation.

This collaboration highlights the continuous commitment of the School of Pharmacy, Walailak University, to applying pharmaceutical research and academic excellence in partnership with government agencies, serving as mentors to drive sustainable community development and strengthen local bio-based enterprises
