Surat Thani – On June 23, 2026 , the Surat Thani Provincial Public Health Office organized a capacity-building training program for the multidisciplinary network to promote the use of herbal medicines in public health service units across Surat Thani Province. The event was held at the Chaiya Meeting Room, 5th Floor, Surat Thani Provincial Public Health Office , and was attended by 90 multidisciplinary professionals from hospitals and sub-district health promoting hospitals in the province.
For this training, Asst. Prof. Dr. Boonsong Wungsintaweekul, a lecturer from the School of Pharmacy, Walailak University, was invited as a guest speaker. He delivered a lecture on the topic “Evidence-based Herbal Medicine” to build a correct, scientifically-grounded understanding of utilizing herbs for patient care.
The main objectives of this training project were as follows:

To develop the potential of Thai traditional medicine personnel and multidisciplinary teams regarding the integration of disease treatments using Thai traditional and alternative medicine.

To promote the use of herbal medicines as a substitute for modern medicines.

To increase the efficiency of data recording and budget disbursement from the National Health Security Office (NHSO) Thai traditional medicine fund for service units.
In addition to the lecture on evidence-based practices, the event also provided knowledge on budget management dimensions. Mr. Bunyarit Luansiri, Director of the Provincial Group for NHSO Region 11, Surat Thani, lectured on the topic “NHSO Budget 2 Billion Baht: Just Prescribe Herbal Medicine Rationally”. Furthermore, a panel discussion was held on “Guidelines for Enhancing the Efficiency of Data Recording for Public Health Service Units in Surat Thani Province” , led by Ms. Thanawan Mathusornsak, Executive Administrator at NHSO Region 11, Surat Thani, and Mr. Suchart Oochai, Professional Public Health Technical Officer at the Surat Thani Provincial Public Health Office.
This training marks a significant step in bridging academic knowledge from educational institutions with the practical work of medical personnel at the regional level. The ultimate goal is to elevate the standards of Thai traditional medicine services and the use of herbal medicines to ensure maximum efficiency and benefits for the people of Surat Thani.
