NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, Thailand — Three academics from Walailak University’s School of Pharmacy have been tapped to serve as expert members on the Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Folk Healer Committee, a move aimed at bolstering traditional medical practices in the southern Thai province.
Nakhon Si Thammarat Governor Somchai Leelanoi recently signed the official order establishing the new board and its expert members. The committee is tasked with driving the province’s traditional healing initiatives, ensuring they align with the Ministry of Public Health’s 2019 regulations regarding the certification of folk healers.
The three professors were selected to serve as “expert committee members” based on their specialized knowledge, abilities, and expertise to help guide the committee’s efforts. The appointees are:

Asst. Prof. Dr. Chaweewan Klongsiriwet: Appointed as Expert Committee Member in Education or Research

Asst. Prof. Dr. Tida Sotthiyothin: Appointed as Expert Committee Member in Social Sciences

The provincial government noted that these appointments reflect Nakhon Si Thammarat’s ongoing commitment to integrating higher education expertise and academic research with traditional Thai medical wisdom. The ultimate goal is to foster sustainable, locally rooted healthcare solutions for the community.
