School of Pharmacy, Walailak University — Asst. Prof. Dr. Tida Sottiyotin, Assistant Dean of the School of Pharmacy, revealed that the Student Affairs department recently hosted the “Ramadan Relations” project. The initiative aims to promote a deeper understanding of religious practices and foster peaceful coexistence within a multicultural society. The event featured a panel discussion exploring various dimensions of fasting, attracting over 50 Buddhist and Muslim students, alongside school executives, faculty members, and staff who joined in a warm show of solidarity.
The primary objective of this activity was to create a space for Knowledge Sharing regarding Muslim practices during the holy month of Ramadan. A highlight of the event was the philosophical discussion titled “The Significance of Patience,” which compared perspectives on endurance across different religions. This allowed participants to identify common spiritual grounds, such as self-refinement, mental discipline, and self-control.
Strengthening Multicultural Ties through Dialogue
The atmosphere of the event was marked by warmth and mutual respect. Students listened to insights on the discipline of fasting—emphasizing that it extends beyond abstaining from food and drink to include resisting temptations and practicing charity. Following the discussion, students from both religious backgrounds joined the Iftar (the meal to break the fast) together, further strengthening the bonds of friendship and communal harmony.
