WU Pharmacy Faculty Awarded 32nd Thailand Toray Science Foundation Research Grants

On March 6, 2026, the Thailand Toray Science Foundation (TTSF) held its 32nd Awards and Financial Grants for Science and Technology Ceremony at The Athenee Hotel, Bangkok.

The ceremony was presided over by H.E. General Surayud Chulanont, President of the Privy Council. Notable attendees included H.E. Mr. Masato Otaka, Ambassador of Japan to Thailand; Professor Dr. Yongyuth Yuthavong, Chairman of the Foundation; and Mr. Akihiro Nikkaku, Chairman of Toray Industries, Inc. (Japan).

Foundation Objectives

The Thailand Toray Science Foundation aims to promote the advancement of science and technology in Thailand. Driven by a commitment to national development, the foundation has consistently selected and awarded grants for 32 consecutive years across three main categories:

  1. Science and Technology Award: Honoring individuals or institutions with outstanding achievements in science and technology.

  2. Science and Technology Research Grant: Supporting professors or researchers engaged in projects that enhance scientific knowledge in Thailand, covering fields such as Agriculture, Chemistry, Engineering, and Physics.

  3. Science Education Award: Recognizing middle and high school science teachers who demonstrate excellence and innovation in science education.


Honoring Walailak University Researcher

This year, Associate Professor Dr. Somchai Sawasdee, a researcher from the School of Pharmacy, Walailak University, was selected to receive a Research Grant in the field of Chemistry.

His research project is titled:

“Production and Surface Modification of Nanocellulose Crystals Derived from Palm Kernel Expeller for the Development of Wound Dressings Loaded with Vancomycin.”

The foundation supports research topics that provide public benefit and contribute to the advancement of Thailand’s science and technology landscape. Dr. Somchai received the award from H.E. General Surayud Chulanont, accompanied by Associate Professor Dr. Apichart Atipairin, a member of the research team.
