Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand – On Wednesday, September 11, 2025, the School of Pharmacy, Walailak University, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Attarat Patanawongsa, carried out a community outreach activity under the research project “Evaluation of Antidiabetic Activity and Selection of Endophytic Fungi Producing Bioactive Compounds from Thai Cardamom.” The event took place at a workers’ residence in Pak Phun Subdistrict, Mueang District, with around 20 Myanmar migrant workers participating.
The project, supported by the Plant Genetic Conservation Project under the Royal Initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn (RSPG), as well as Walailak University’s Community Service Grant, aims to promote the health benefits of local medicinal plants while extending health knowledge to underserved communities.
During the session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Attarat delivered a lecture on diabetes, its symptoms, complications, diagnosis, and self-care strategies. To enhance understanding, pamphlets in the Myanmar language were distributed, ensuring accessible and culturally appropriate communication. The session also introduced examples of medicinal plants with scientifically supported antidiabetic properties.
The atmosphere was highly engaging, with the Myanmar workers demonstrating keen interest and active attention throughout the lecture. The initiative reflects Walailak University’s commitment not only to advancing scientific research but also to applying academic knowledge for the direct benefit of society and local communities.
