Strengthening Ties: WU and USC Philippines Advance Global Pharmacy Education Through Collaborative Exchange

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, THAILAND — The School of Pharmacy at Walailak University (WU) recently welcomed a delegation of faculty members and students from the University of San Carlos (USC), Philippines, for the 4th consecutive WU/USC Exchange Programme.

Held from January 12 to 23, 2026, the two-week initiative aims to broaden international perspectives in pharmaceutical sciences and foster long-term academic synergy between the two institutions.

Bridging Theory and Practice

During their visit, the USC delegation engaged in a comprehensive itinerary designed to showcase Thailand’s multifaceted healthcare and pharmaceutical landscape. Key activities included:

  • On-Campus Excellence: Hands-on sessions at the WU Pharmacy Laboratories, visits to the WU Botanic Garden, and clinical observations at the Walailak University Drug Store and the Walailak University Hospital (WUH).

  • Field Exploration: Study tours to community-based settings, including the Parinya Pharmacy and the Ton Liap Health Promoting Hospital.

  • Industrial Insight: A specialized visit to the Tha Chang Herbal Medicine Factory in Surat Thani Province, highlighting Thailand’s expertise in traditional medicine integration.

A Future of Shared Innovation

Beyond immediate academic gains, the program serves as a cornerstone for deepening the partnership between Walailak University and University of San Carlos. This collaboration is set to pave the way for future faculty and researcher exchanges, joint pharmaceutical internships, and collaborative research projects.

The successful conclusion of this year’s program underscores both universities’ commitment to producing globally-competent pharmacists and advancing the pharmaceutical profession across the ASEAN region.
