Headline: Walailak Pharmacy Students Joined Exchange Program in Philippines During Summer Break

From April 21 to May 4, 2024, Walailak University’s School of Pharmacy students—Miss Sirikana Sirisombut, Miss Pawarisar Suntharak, Miss Kotchapan Khaorapapon, and Mr. Afanee Moolsup—along with faculty members Assistant Prof. Dr. Aruna Prasopthum and Dr. Siddhibhong Jongkraijakra, participated in an exchange program at the University of San Carlos (USC) in Cebu City, Philippines.

The program launched with a warm welcome from USC President Fr. Francisco Antonio Estepa and a campus tour introducing the USC Department of Pharmacy. Walailak’s delegates then joined a series of interactive classroom sessions to compare Thailand’s healthcare system with the Philippines’. They collaborated on patient treatment plans and even formulated and tested herbal products and cosmetics using animal models.

Their learning extended beyond the classroom with visits to the Vicente Sotto Medical Memorial Center, Rose Pharmacy Drugstore, Chong Hua Hospital, and International Pharmaceuticals, Inc. These field trips provided invaluable insights into the diverse pharmacy professions in the Philippines.

Walailak’s faculty also contributed to the exchange of knowledge. Assistant Prof. Dr. Aruna Prasopthum delivered a lecture on “3D Printing of Materials with Biomedical Application,” and Dr. Siddhibhong Jongkraijakra spoke on “Continuing Clinical Pharmacy Education in Thailand,” enriching the academic environment for USC’s faculty members and students.

The activities also included cultural immersion with visits to Cebu’s scenic beaches and historic sites, including the Basilica, Fort San Pedro, and the National Museum. The group also participated in the FJCPPhA National Quiz Bowl, further bonding with local students and faculty.

School of Pharmacy, Walailak University, would like to express our gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality of the USC students and faculties during the exchange program. This program not only enriched our academic and professional insights but also strengthened our friendships and collaborations, paving the way for future endeavors in the field of pharmaceutical education, research, and practice.
