Head of Research Center, School of Pharmacy, WU received a budget for the culture of Sri Maha Pho plant for outreach.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Gorawit Yusakul has obtained a budget for the propagation of the Sri Maha Pho plant, which is the iconic plant of Buddhism imported from India, by plant tissue culture method. This research aims to conserve the innumerable ancient plant according to the Plant Genetic Conservation Project under the Royal Initiative Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Siam Boromrajakumari Walailak University (framework for utilization, activity 4: conservation and resource utilization activities).

In this regard, Dr. Gorawit started developing young plants by propagating it using induced multiple shoot development under sterile conditions in the tissue culture lab. Sri Maha Pho culture was then nurtured in the Botanical Park Walailak University. The mature, sufficiently strong trees have currently been distributed to many educational institutions and government agencies.
This start from a research bench to living plant products that can be given to broad communities has reflected the mission of the university in terms of academic services.
